Former BRSA Commissioner Frank Wells publicly insisted the above photo is of a wind turbine deliberately set afire in a safety test. He is wrong. Below is a photo of the same turbine fire in a German magazine. The caption translates to, "Only a smoking ruin remains of this power plant in Tüttendorf, Rendsburg. Struck by lightning, the gondola (nacelle) was engulfed in flames 60 meters high and burned out completely." With about 800 liters of a highly flammable and toxic lubricant in each industrial wind turbine, fires like this one do occur. Scroll down for a few other examples of fires and collapses. Unlike in Union Beach where 400 homes would be located within 2,000 feet of the site, all these turbines are far from the nearest home.
